As the Head of the NASA Langley Office of Education until July 2014, Dr. Roger A. Hathaway was responsible for providing leadership and policy guidance for formal and informal education programs at NASA Langley. The programs include pre-college, higher education, distance learning, digital media laboratory program activities, and adult learning programs.

Dr. Hathaway began his federal career in 1983 as an education specialist in the Office of Public Services at Langley. In this capacity, he was responsible for conducting outreach education activities throughout Langley’s five-state service regions. In 1991, he was appointed to be the Pre-College Officer for the Langley Office of Education. Within this position, he managed the Aerospace Education Specialist Program, a summer student research program, pre-college programs, distance learning programs, and a host of special events and related pre-college activities. During 1993, he spent several months at NASA Headquarters in the Office of the Administrator as the Executive Officer for the Special Assistant to the Administrator where he assisted with the technical and administrative leadership of the Agency.
