The National Science Foundation (NSF) announced today that the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) has received a major award as one of two Scientific Software Innovation Institutes (S2I2). The Institute, which is operated through a collaboration of seven institutions across the country, will increase the capabilities, number, and sustainability of science gateways. The SGCI is accepting applications for support services. The institute offers five areas of service, including an Incubator, Extended Developer Support, Scientific Software Collaborative, Community Engagement & Exchange, and Workforce Development. Currently, all services are available free of charge.

The 1st inaugural Gateways 2016 Conference (an expansion of the long-running Gateway Computing Environments workshop series) is scheduled for November 2-3 in San Diego. A Call for Participation requests short proposals to be submitted by Tuesday, September 6.
