Gateways 2020 Plenary addresses the Challenge of Gateway Interoperability

By: Claire Stirm

Gateways 2020 has officially kicked off with the first week featuring interactive and informative tutorials and workshops! We are also looking forward to next week’s main conference track featuring presentations, demos, Learning Labs, and of course, interactive keynotes from Dr. Roger Aines and Amy Aines, authors of Championing Science, and Dr. Thomas Dohmke, sharing behind-the-scenes details of GitHub’s Archive Program! Another plenary session that you won’t want to miss is the “The Challenge of Gateway Interoperability: The SGCI Tech Summit” on Wednesday, October 21, at 1 pm ET/10 am PT.

Attendees will have a chance to hear about the Science Gateways Community Institute’s own initiative, the Tech Summit, and provide their input. Launched during last year’s Gateways 2019 conference, this initiative has had the core mission of producing products and resources that solve common challenges and improve gateway management for the gateways community. The first product being developed by the Tech Summit team is the SGCI Resource Inventory.

Join the SGCI Tech Summit team and guest panelists, Dr. Tamas Kiss, JP Navarro, and Eric Franz, on October 21 at 1-2 pm ET/10-11 am PT. The team will be discussing with the audience the prototyped SGCI Resource Inventory,  supporting gateway interoperability and uniform descriptions of HPC resources. The second half of this presentation will include a panel discussion on  the challenges with and effort toward interoperability across cyberinfrastructure. The audience is also invited to join a Learning Lab later that day, starting at 2:30 pm ET/11:30 am PT, to share feedback and get involved with the initiative’s next steps.
