2020 Summer Internship Reports: Tony Guy

Each year, our Workforce Development team offers summer internships for students interested in developing their gateway development skills. Participants are placed at one of several SGCI partner sites. We will be sharing some of our 2020 student interns' experiences in a series of blog posts entitled SGCI Summer Internship Reports.
Featured below is SGCI summer intern Tony Guy, a sophomore at Elizabeth City State University (ECSU).

Tell us a little about yourself?
I am Tony Guy. I am from Charleston, South Carolina. I enjoy reading and playing video games. I am a sophomore in college studying Computer Science.
Where did your Internship take place, and who did you work for?
I did my internship at Indiana University virtually, and I worked with Dr. James A Glazier and Dr. Geoffrey Fox. I've also worked with student mentors Joshua Brendan, and Juliano Ferrari Gianlupi on simulation runs for COVID-19.
What are some things that you learned as a result of this internship?
I've learned the immune response to COVID-19 and different parameters and parts of the immune system that helps fight off viral infections.
Do you see yourself engaging with SGCI again in the future? Perhaps when you begin your career?
I most definitely vision myself working with SGCI and Indiana University if the opportunity arises.
Anything else to add about your internship experience?
This is my first summer REU, and I've enjoyed my experience. James and the mentors were pretty flexible with the scheduling.
