Since December 2023, SGX3 (A Center of Excellence to Extend Access, Expand the Community, and Exemplify Good Practices for CI Through Science Gateways - NSF #2231406) has been engaging with the National Science Foundation (NSF) to establish and maintain the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource (NAIRR) Pilot Portal to support the NAIRR launch. The portal provides access to AI resources and information about the activities of the NAIRR program. SGX3 will continue to engage stakeholders and develop the pilot portal to produce short-term and long-term capabilities for the community.
SGX3 received supplemental funding from NSF to support ongoing initiatives for the NAIRR Pilot Portal to continue learning about the community’s needs through several feedback sessions. We invite you to complete the survey about requirements and visions for a future NAIRR Portal via the link below.
In December 2024 and January 2025, SGX3 will host online focus groups for those interested in helping to shape the future of the NAIRR Portal through collecting community feedback in use by educators, researchers, resource providers, and other community thought leadership.
Save the date for an in-person workshop at the San Diego Supercomputer Center (SDSC) from February 4-5, 2025. Participation in this workshop allows for the opportunity to contribute to the design of the NAIRR Portal and its capabilities.
With the retirement of former Principal Investigator (PI) Michael Zentner, the SGX3 leadership and community would like to thank him for his years of service. Effective August 3, 2024, Sandra Gesing has succeeded Michael as PI of SGX3. Sandra Gesing was chosen because of her extensive background in cyberinfrastructure and science gateways. Gesing, formerly a Co-PI of SGX3 and the inaugural Executive Director of the US Research Software Engineer Association, has substantial experience leading science gateway initiatives, designing and developing science gateways, and promoting sustainable software practices. Her work emphasizes educational initiatives, user experience design, and long-term strategies, making her a fitting choice to carry SGX3 forward in addressing current and future challenges in the science gateway field.
Gesing expressed her excitement: “I'm honored to lead SGX3 and its incredible team into its next chapter. Building on Mike Zentner's legacy and the vibrant science gateway community, we'll continue to push the boundaries of science gateways and empower researchers with knowledge about cutting-edge tools and technologies.”
