Join the Gateways 2019 conference

Gateways 2019 offers gateway creators and enthusiasts the chance to connect, learn, share, and shape the future of gateways. Early-bird registration will open in late June.

Science gateways bring together components of advanced cyberinfrastructure—data collections, instruments, supercomputers, clouds, collaboration capabilities, and analytical tools—behind streamlined, user-friendly interfaces. The 4th annual Gateways conference will be an opportunity for gateway creators and enthusiasts to learn, share, connect, and shape the future of gateways. The conference is organized by the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI), which is funded by NSF to facilitate—through low- or no-cost services and resources—the sharing of experiences, technologies, and practices of those working with science gateways.

Gateways 2019 will be at the Catamaran Resort in San Diego, CA, September 23–25, 2019. The program committee welcomes submission of many presentation formats (papers, demos, tutorials, panels) on topics including the design, use, impact, development process, sustainability, or best practices of gateways — or any other aspect that fellow gateway creators or users might find interesting to learn. Educational topics directed toward the next generation of gateway creators are also welcome. An expanded list of relevant topics may be viewed on the conference website.

Conference attendees, new and old, find the event to be a valuable opportunity. One participant at Gateways 2018 remarked,

I just wanted to send an extra and heartfelt thank you for your amazing conference. The time spent there listening to presentations and talking to people was so valuable for me (and also so much fun!). I returned with lots of connections and possible interactions—nothing could be more vital for our work….The whole atmosphere was one of finding out what others are doing and telling them what we are doing—I'm not sure what it was about your conference, but it was very magical in that way!

In addition, this year Gateways 2019 is co-located with the eScience conference. The two conferences will offer a shared keynote, presentations about mutually interesting topics, and a shared evening reception, as well as opportunities for mingling during the breaks. Conference attendees will have the option to register for one or both conferences, in full or in part. These two audiences share interests, content, and culture, and we will announce further details of our collaboration later in 2019. This is an opportunity to attend both events!
