About the Gateways Conference Series
The Gateways conferences began in 2005 as the Gateway Computing Environments Workshop series, hosted at Supercomputing, XSEDE, and other related conferences. These half-day or full-day workshops brought together a group of about 30 to 40 gateway developers, users, and resource providers to talk about their experiences, technologies, and accomplishments.
In 2016, with the funding of the Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI) by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the workshop series was expanded to a two-day conference hosted at the San Diego Supercomputer Center. This expansion, which added tutorials, demos, and a Resource Expo, tripled attendance to a larger, more diverse group of nearly 120 participants.
The Gateways 2017 conference continued the tradition in Ann Arbor, Michigan, offering a full day of tutorials before the main two days of the conference. More than 100 people attended.
The Gateways 2018 conference will be the 13th US-based gathering dedicated to this topic. We partner with the International Workshops on Science Gateways hosted in Europe and Australia to bring an annual special issue of extended papers from all three events.
