The travel support grant applications have closed.

The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI), which is organizing this conference, has resources to assist individuals who wish to participate in the conference but do not have sufficient travel funding.

IF YOU ARE A STUDENT and wish to apply for this funding, please fill out the Student Travel Support Application instead.

We are offering two types of support this year:

  1. Registration subsidies to offset the increase in registration from prior years ($200 each).
  2. Travel funds to cover transportation and/or hotel expenses, up to $700 each.

Registraton Subsidies

Up to 15 registration subsidies of $200 each will be offered to offset the cost of registration. Preference will be given to people who are not presenting a peer-reviewed paper, demo, or tutorial at the conference. Applicants requesting registration subsidies will be asked to provide some service at the conference, such as timekeeping at presentations, taking photos, or assisting with the poster session. (The application includes an opportunity to tell us what you might be particularly good at doing.) You'll register first and then receive a reimbursement.

Travel Funds

Priority will be given to those who have submitted presentations or can make a compelling case for how their participation will contribute to the gateways community and/or positively impact their future research or educational activities. Applicants who are not presenting a peer-reviewed submission at the conference (i.e., paper, demo, tutorial) will be required to write a guest blog post for the SGCI (about something learned at the conference or about a gateway-related topic of interest). Applicants must be US citizens or affiliated with a US institution.

For those provided travel funds, actual expenses up to a maximum of $700 (including travel and hotel accommodation) will be covered. Detailed instructions will be provided to those awarded funds. Please note that the cost of registration includes breakfast, lunch, and breaks on all days of the conference, plus a reception on Tuesday. A per diem for food cannot be provided through these participant support funds.
