The travel support grant applications have closed.

The Science Gateways Community Institute (SGCI), which is organizing this conference, has resources to assist individuals who wish to participate in the conference but do not have sufficient travel funding.

IF YOU ARE NOT A STUDENT and wish to apply for travel support, please fill out our General Travel Support Application instead.

The SGCI will support a limited number of students who are actively participating in the Gateways 2019 Conference on September 23-25. SGCI remains committed to supporting students' travel to present their research as a vital component of students’ growth as scholars.  Any student who is delivering a paper or poster may apply for travel assistance. Applicants who are not presenting a poster or oral presentation at the conference will be required to write a guest blog post for the SGCI and/or provide other volunteer help at the conference. Applicants must be students at a US institution and living in the US.

NOTE: All applicants will require a faculty or other school-based mentor who agrees to assist the applicant with mileage or airfare.

Support only covers registration fees and double-occupancy housing. Priority will be given to those who have submitted a paper, demo, or poster. Those who are not presenting should make a compelling case for how their participation will contribute to the science gateways community and/or positively impact their future research or educational activities.

With your completed application form below you must include:

  1. Your paper/poster abstract (if applicable) OR a short essay on the benefit of attending the conference (see above explanation)
  2. Resume
  3. Transcript

Please save these files as PDFs and name them with your last name, first name, and file type. For example:

  • "Smith_Chris_Abstract.pdf"
  • "Weaver_Pat_Transcript.pdf"

These should be uploaded here: (You might have trouble uploading if you don't log in to Dropbox first.)

NOTE: If your application is accepted, the SGCI will pay for your hotel directly. You will also be given a promo code for registration; if you have already registered, your expense will be reimbursed. More information will be sent with your acceptance notification.
