In an effort to nurture the next generation of Science Gateway users and developers, the Conference Mentoring Program pairs students and faculty with science gateway professional staff at the conference. Each student attending Gateways 2022 was assigned a Gateway community mentor for the entire conference. Mentors and mentees were introduced to one another on Tuesday, October 18. They were encouraged to attend at least three conference sessions together. By attending joint sessions, mentors can provide more information about the projects discussed or help make connections for the mentees. Mentors and mentees also meet-up during conference meals, receptions, and walk through the poster session together.
Mentees were encouraged to use this opportunity to share their professional goals, to get suggestions for the next steps in their professional development as students, and to get information on science gateway applications that can be applied in the classroom for faculty.
Learn more about our student-focused programs, and sign up for our science gateways newsletter to stay updated on future opportunities and programs for mentoring.
