Marlon Pierce has been a long time advocate and technical supporter of science gateways. Starting before the initiation of SGCI, Marlon was actively involved in the community by providing technical advice for science gateways using XSEDE and other U.S. research computing. Marlon continued his support for science gateways and bringing the technical community together as the SGCI Lead of the Extended Development Support Team and the SGX3 Lead of the Blueprint Factories.

In Spring 2023, Marlon accepted an appointment with the National Science Foundation (NSF) as a program officer with the Office of Advanced Cyberinfrastrucutre.

“I’m excited not just about what can I do in this position, but what can I enable others to do,” Pierce said. “I’m not just advancing my own research agenda but fostering the advancement of infrastructure to support science at a completely different level.”

We wish Marlon the best of luck and look forward to seeing him around the community in his new program officer role!
