Director of Research Data ServicesĀ for MIT Libraries

Recruitment has begun for the position of Director of Research Data Services for MIT Libraries (https://libraries.mit.edu/about/), at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Priority consideration date is 22Jan2024. This position is eligible for visa sponsorship.

 

Reporting to Alexia Hudson-Ward, Associate Director of Research, Learning, and Strategic Partnerships, the DIRECTOR OF RESEARCH DATA SERVICESMIT Libraries, will assume a role pivotal to reshaping the Department of Data and Specialized Services (DSS) during a transformative period marked by scientific and technological advancements.  Will craft an operational strategy for DSS, overseeing resource allocation and supporting diverse activities such as data management plans, DOI minting, and GIS support. This newly re-envisioned role involves continuous engagement in strategic and operational assessments, collaboration with the Libraries Data Governance group, and adherence to funder requirements and best practices.  Beyond managing day-to-day DSS functions, which supported 68 departments and handled over 600 queries in the last fiscal year, the director will strategically align with other MIT Libraries departments and foster external relationships; represent MIT Libraries, engaging with MIT entities, serving on Institute-wide committees, and establishing partnerships globally; and develop collaborative data services to meet the evolving needs of the MIT research community.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED:  master’s degree in a related field and at least seven years of relevant experience, including five years of management and supervisory experience.  Must be able to work with the Institute's staff and partners and to navigate the rapidly evolving research data policy landscape successfully; collaborate across the Libraries to ensure that MIT's open data is findable and reusable in support of equitable open scholarship; and partner with the Libraries and Institute stakeholders to ensure compliance with research data privacy, security, and sustainability regulations. Job #23568-11
