FAQ for Science Gateways 2023 Annual Conference

The Gateways conference series is hosted each year at a location in the US. Gateways 2023 is excited to be coming to Pittsburgh, PA!
Join us Monday, October 30 - Wednesday, November 1, 2023 at the Landing Hotel as we continue to bridge the connection between science and gateways.

What are the evening activities?

The conference is hosting three evening activities (full details available here):

  • Monday, October 30: Young Professionals Award. Keynote Alex Wright. Reception with Posters
  • Tuesday, October 31: Dinner with desserts and drinks. Including Hubzero/One Science Place launch event (Carnegie Science Museum and Mars Exhibit)
  • Wednesday, November 1: Optional activity
What is BYoP?

Bring Your own Portal.  A portion of the program to allow gateway owners to show off their gateways.

 

I'm presenting a session or tutorial. What do I need to know?

Please refer to the the Conference Program page, for details about submitting your final paper and presentation slides, room setups, and more.

 

Will conference attendees have access to free WiFi?

Yes, free WiFi is available at the main conference hotel.

I am presenting a poster during the evening reception on Monday, will there be a place I can store my poster during the day?

Yes, there will be a designated corner where posters can be safely stored. 

 
I am leaving for the airport right after the conference concludes on Wednesday, November 1. Will there be a place where I can store my suitcase and other belongings during the day?

Yes, space, is available for those who would like to store their luggage, posters, etc. before they depart for the airport.

 

Are meals served at Gateways 2023?

Yes! We will have the following meals and snacks provided during the conference:

  • Monday, October 30: 
    • 2:30 pm Eastern: Afternoon snacks & refreshments
    • 6:00 pm Eastern: Evening reception with dinner, desserts, and drinks
  • Tuesday, October 31:
    • 11:30 am Eastern: Lunch provided
    • 2:30 pm Eastern: Afternoon snacks & refreshments
    • 6:00 pm Eastern: Conference dinner, desserts, and drinks
  • Wednesday, November 1: 
    • 11:30 am Eastern: Lunch provided
    • 2:30 pm Eastern: Afternoon snacks & refreshments

If you are staying at the Landing Hotel, breakfast is provided for all guests.

What is the dress code for Gateways 2023?

Business casual to casual! We are a relaxed group and want you to be comfortable as you attend. 

 
Cancellation Policy?

The last day to request a registration refund is Monday, October 9. Please email us at help@sciencegateways.org with your request and we will issue a credit to your original form of payment. You will need to cancel your hotel through the Landing Hotel directly.

 
Is there a Code of Conduct?

Gateways 2023 is dedicated to providing a welcoming, inclusive, and harassment-free conference experience for everyone. Anything less will not be tolerated. Can I register on-site if I am under 21?

There will be no on-site registration for anyone under 21 due to policies with the venue. All participants under 21 must register by October 6th.
